Sunshine Recorder: an (imaginary) "best of" Boards of Canada compilation

Listen to Sunshine Recorder: The Best of BoC on Apple Music

How possible is it to collect a representative compilation of the best tracks by Boards of Canada within 74 minutes (a single old fashioned CD)? The answer is: almost impossible. To date BoC have released 4 studio albums and around 6 Eps (plus some unofficial early material that they have not officially acknowledged).

My first attempt at compiling a list of what I considered my favourite the best of BoC ended up with 40 tracks – nearly 3 hours of music. Daunting for any new listener!

Eventually, after a lot of listening and tough decisions, I managed to narrow down the list to 20 tracks that would fill one CD. There’s a few more I’d recommend to anyone listening to BoC for the first time but I think this list gives a decent overview of the development of the duo over the last 20+ years.

(I actually put this list together after listening to the Random 35 Tracks compilation the other day which led me to listen again to  BoC’s music. This isn’t a real album in any way: just a suggestion of what could be considered a “best of”.]
